Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci has stated that the anti-tank missiles “Javelin” will be in the inventory of the Kosovo Security Force at the appropriate time, but did not provide further details.

In a press conference following Wednesday’s Government meeting, Maqedonci mentioned that payments for the second installment are expected to be completed by the end of the year. “Regarding the ‘Javelin’ missiles, the Ministry is continuing with the procurement procedures. In March of this year, we executed the first installment, and by the end of the year, we will execute the second installment. We are on the right path to have this system in due time,” he said.

On January 11, the U.S. Department of State approved the sale of 246 “Javelin” missiles to Kosovo, valued at around 75 million dollars. The request was sent to the U.S. Congress, which approved the purchase in February of this year.

The U.S. Department of State stated that the arms sale to Kosovo supports the objectives of U.S. foreign policy and national security.

The missile system, which is auto-guided and has a range of up to 4,000 meters, gained recognition during Ukraine’s defensive war against Russia.

The enhancement of defensive capabilities is part of the Comprehensive Transition Plan.
