Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci expressed his deep sorrow over the death of General Mike Jackson at the age of 80.

In a Facebook post, Maqedonci stated that Jackson will always be remembered for his significant contribution to creating a peaceful environment in Kosovo following NATO’s bombings of Serbian and Yugoslav targets, as well as for the return of Albanians to their homes.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of the first commander of KFOR, General Mike Jackson. General Jackson will always be remembered for his significant contribution to creating a peaceful environment in Kosovo after the end of NATO’s bombings against Serbian and Yugoslav forces, as well as for the return of Albanians to their homes. He willingly led the KFOR command during the most critical period of democratic transition for our state, and today we share a heavy heart over this great loss alongside the general’s family and the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom. May he rest in peace,” the minister wrote.
