Kosovo’s Minister of Defence, Ejup Maqedonci, recently commented on the attack targeting the main Ibar-Lepenc canal in Zubin Potok, which took place a week ago. Maqedonci stated that the primary goal of the attack was to cause significant damage and disrupt the functioning of Kosovo’s institutions.
He emphasized that the aim of the attack was to destabilize the country and undermine the sovereignty of Kosovo. “The attack was intended to cause significant consequences, particularly in terms of denying essential services to citizens. It was also designed to obstruct and kneecap the operations of the country’s institutions, in an attempt to portray Kosovo as an unstable state. Furthermore, it aimed at destabilizing and weakening the very sovereignty of Kosovo,” Maqedonci explained.
The Minister praised the efforts of Kosovo’s institutions, who managed to handle the situation effectively, despite interruptions in electricity and water supplies.
He also warned of the severe, unpredictable consequences if the attack had been successful in achieving its goals. “Fortunately, thanks to the commitment and coordination of all institutions, the ultimate goal of the attack was not achieved. If it had succeeded, the consequences could have been unpredictable. While we did face some setbacks, particularly with electricity, water, and other essential services, the situation was managed thanks to the efforts of our institutions,” Maqedonci added in an interview with Dukagjini.
Maqedonci also revealed that initial suspicions point to criminal groups connected to the notorious terrorist figure Milan Radoičić and his network in northern Kosovo. “The initial suspicions are pointing precisely to those who have long organized and carried out such acts, linked to Radojčić’s group and their remnants in the north. We must await the conclusion of the investigations, but all leads currently point towards these terrorist groups,” Maqedonci stated.
