Acting Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci has reacted to the recent arrests of former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) by Serbian authorities, stating clearly that Serbia is persisting with its hegemonic and hostile approach toward the state of Kosovo.
During a press conference following the Government meeting, Maqedonci emphasized that the issue goes far beyond individual cases—Serbia’s problem is Kosovo’s very existence as a sovereign nation.
“We, as the Ministry of Defense that represents the military legacy of our people, in this case the legacy of the Kosovo Liberation Army, are engaged—whenever possible and together with our partners—to raise the issue of Serbia’s arrests of former KLA members. But beyond individual arrests, Serbia continues to enforce a hegemonic approach toward the very existence of our state,” Maqedonci said.
He added that Serbia’s actions are systematic, not incidental:
“It’s not just about one KLA member. It’s not just about one police officer. The core problem is Serbia’s persistent hegemonic posture toward our country—its refusal to recognize any of Kosovo’s achievements, and its ongoing treatment of Kosovo as if it were part of Serbia. That hegemonic mindset is the root of everything; the rest are merely consequences.”
