Kosovo’s Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci has reacted to recent statements made by Aleksandar Vučić during the presentation of the “Serbia 2030” strategy, where the Serbian president said that Kosovo is part of Serbia and claimed that there is currently no partner for dialogue in Kosovo.
Kosovo’s sovereignty “irreversible”
Maqedonci said such statements represent a continuation of a political narrative that denies reality and aims to keep the region under tension.
He emphasized that Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state with legitimate institutions that reflect the democratic will of its citizens.
According to him, this reality is irreversible and cannot be changed through political statements or Serbia’s internal strategies.
Concerns over “Serbia 2030” military plans
The defense minister also raised concerns about elements of the “Serbia 2030” strategy, which reportedly include:
- Increased military spending
- Multi-billion euro investments in weapons
- Development of a drone industry
- Creation of an advanced digital army
Maqedonci said that when these developments are combined with territorial claims toward Kosovo and rhetoric denying its statehood—as well as the concept known as the “Serbian World”—they create real concerns for regional security and stability.
Reference to the Banjska attack
He also referred to the Banjska attack, an armed incident in northern Kosovo in which Kosovo authorities accused Serbia-backed structures of involvement.
Commitment to defense and partnerships
Maqedonci stressed that Kosovo remains committed to peace and stability in the region and supports sincere dialogue leading to mutual recognition between the two sovereign states.
At the same time, he said the Government of Kosovo will continue to:
- Strengthen defense capabilities
- Further develop the Kosovo Security Force according to professional standards
- Deepen strategic cooperation with Euro-Atlantic partners
He concluded by stressing that Kosovo’s security and sovereignty are non-negotiable.
