On June 13, Kosovo and the United States are expected to sign a framework document that guarantees broader cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense.
This agreement is expected to be of particular importance for the protection of Kosovo’s territory and the strengthening of bilateral relations, said Acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci.
The signing of this agreement between the U.S. Department of Defense and the Ministry of Defense of Kosovo was announced a day earlier by the Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
Maqedonci said that through this document covering the period from 2025 to 2030—the aim is to establish long-term cooperation with the United States.
“Through this agreement, the areas of cooperation will be further defined with the goal of achieving the objectives of the Comprehensive Transition Plan, increasing interoperability between our forces, enhancing cooperation in the defense industry, and contributing jointly to regional and global peace and security,” he stated.
He emphasized that such agreements and military cooperation memorandums are not intended to threaten any country, but rather to develop defense capabilities and foster partnerships that bring Kosovo closer to NATO.
Maqedonci explained that the agreement is part of an earlier process that received preliminary approval from the Government and was later updated.
The Government had approved the agreement in March, through which Kosovo and the U.S. commit to advancing cooperation in the areas of defense planning, strategic resilience, and the development of strategic military capacities.
