Albania’s Maritime and Border Police have blocked 30 vessels and fined 12 operators during intensified monitoring this week, stretching from Ksamil to Koman. The measures are part of the ongoing “Maritime Safety” operation aimed at enhancing maritime security parameters and protecting vacationers.
Violations and Penalties
According to the police, 12 vessel operators were found navigating within designated safety perimeters, directly endangering the lives of swimmers. Each of these operators was issued an administrative fine of 100,000 Albanian Lek (ALL).
The blocked vessels include 18 jet skis, 7 speedboats, 3 inflatable boats, and 2 metal boats with installed water motors.
Rescue Operations and Police Appeal
In addition to enforcing regulations, the Border Police intervened in 7 separate incidents along the coastline from Ksamil to Velipojë, rescuing 13 individuals (both Albanian and foreign nationals) who were in distress due to strong waves or mechanical failures on their vessels.
Police conducted checks on 431 vessels throughout the week. The 30 blocked vessels were impounded for violations such as breaching maritime safety perimeters, conducting activities outside approved zones, and operating without proper documentation.
The Border Police are urging strict adherence to maritime rules for vessel usage, emphasizing the importance of respecting safety perimeters, navigating only in permitted areas, and ensuring vessels are equipped with necessary safety gear.
The State Police encourages citizens and vacationers to report any violations of maritime safety perimeters or other safety measures by calling the toll-free number 112, assuring immediate response and concrete actions against all violators.
