Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has won the Canadian election.
In his victory speech, Carney told supporters:
“President Trump is trying to break us so that America can dominate us – that will never happen.”
It remains uncertain whether Carney will secure a parliamentary majority or need support from other parties to form a government.
Defeated Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre acknowledged that “hard lessons” had been learned.
The projected result marks a stunning turnaround for the Liberal Party, which had been falling in the polls just three months ago—before Carney replaced Justin Trudeau as leader and U.S. President Trump disrupted relations, becoming the central issue of the campaign.
