A large-scale wildfire has erupted near the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër), a protected natural monument in southern Albania’s Sarandë region, posing a direct threat to the area.
Reliable sources reported to Lapsi.al that all tourists have been swiftly evacuated due to the rapid spread of the flames.
Currently, only ground teams from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MZSH) in Finiq are on site, while air support is notably absent, significantly complicating firefighting efforts.
If urgent intervention with helicopters or firefighting planes does not take place soon, there is a real risk that the fire will reach the Blue Eye spring itself and the surrounding biodiversity, potentially causing severe environmental damage.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation on the ground.
