This Monday, the winning concept in the international competition for the master plan of the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz was unveiled.

In this regard, Kurti stated that this is one of the most important and delicate processes in Kosovo, because according to him, in the Memorial Complex, where the traces of the heroic deeds of the Jashari family are preserved, everyone returns to remember the price and roots of freedom.

“We visit historic Prekaz to learn and proudly evoke the history of the Jashari family, which can be summarized in a simple patriotic symbolism—that of Shaban Jashari’s declaration in January 1998. I quote: ‘I only have one home and I have nowhere else to go from here.’ In our tradition, a home does not just mean a building but a community bound by kinship, and in a broader sense, home signifies hearth or homeland.”

“This is precisely why the ‘Adem Jashari’ Memorial Complex in Prekaz is the most important place of national memory, conceptualized as the ‘Hall of the Nation.’ The self-sacrifice, sacrifice, and martyrdom of the Jashari family are the cornerstone of our country’s liberation and furthermore, are a global example of sacrifice for freedom.”

“The KLA Epopee is a historical event with universal concreteness. Considering the importance of the task, we have taken all the necessary steps with the utmost seriousness to ensure that this project of preserving and presenting the memory of the Jashari family is treated with high sensitivity and responsibility, with a professional and multidisciplinary approach, covering history, monumentality, cultural and natural landscape, professional technical evaluation, and the institutionalization of collective memory,” Kurti said.

Kurti further stated that through professional assessment and emergency interventions in the Complex, the safety condition of endangered buildings within the Complex has been improved, while adding that the master plan for the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex will cover an area of 450 hectares in the village of Prekaz.

“Based on the project task, drafted by the expert commission and approved by the government, we announced the international competition for drafting the master plan of the ‘Adem Jashari’ Memorial Complex in Prekaz in May. After an evaluation period, which included professionals from our public institutions and the University of Pristina, today we have the winning proposal for the master plan of the ‘Adem Jashari’ Memorial Complex, which covers a comprehensive area of 450 hectares in the village of Prekaz.”

“With care and patience, we have followed all the steps up to now, and after signing the contract for drafting the master plan, we will continue with the appropriate actions for the realization of the plans and constituent projects of the master plan. We have allocated financial resources and engaged a team of professionals to ensure that the master plan drafting is carried out efficiently within the planned dynamics and timeframe,” Kurti said.

Furthermore, the head of government expressed his belief that this master plan will offer a dignified and comprehensive interpretation of the Jashari family’s history, a story that, according to him, will transcend the temporal barriers of our generation and the spatial boundaries of our country, while adding that the memory of the Jashari family’s heroic deeds will be immortalized globally.

“The overarching goal of this project is that when it is completed, the ‘Adem Jashari’ Complex will have taken the form and shape of a complex historical landscape, where visits will be journeys through the entire history of the Jasharis of Prekaz—from the tradition of resistance to the culture of patriotism, from military training in Albania and the first siege of the Shaban Jashari family in 1991 to the founding of the KLA. From the first armed actions to the self-organization of armed groups.”

“From the first battles of the KLA in Klysyrë and Gjashtë Lisat, to the second siege on January 22, 1998, and especially from the third siege and the resistance of March 5, 6, and 7, 1998, to the legacy of everything that Adem Jashari, the Jashari family, and their history represent to this day—for the liberation and state-building of our country, by our people.”

“Because everything sacred to our nation’s man, and our nation from man, had descended upon the shoulders of Adem Jashari, to preserve and carry forth to the present day and to the generations that will come after us. We will spare nothing to build an internationally important Memorial Complex that will respectfully and artistically reflect the resistance and struggle of the people for freedom and justice, independence, and unity, as befits the figure of Adem Jashari and the Jashari family,” Kurti said.
