The Mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, strongly condemned the physical attack on a Croatian diplomat that took place in the city a day earlier.

On March 29, 2026, a first-class consul at the Consulate General of Croatia and his brother were assaulted in the city center by a large group of unidentified individuals, who also directed ethnic insults at them.

Following the incident, the Croatian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a protest note to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling for an urgent investigation, the identification and punishment of those responsible, and a clear condemnation of what it described as a hate-motivated criminal act against a diplomatic official.

In his statement, Stanivuković stressed that such incidents are unacceptable and must not be tolerated, urging authorities to act swiftly.

“Banja Luka is a city where there is no place for violence or threats to anyone’s safety,” he said.

As of this evening, Banja Luka police have not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
