Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning that “Putin is playing with fire”, a provocative response came from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev wrote:
“I know one very BAD thing — World War III. I hope Trump understands that.”
The statement sparked immediate backlash from Keith Kellog, a Trump envoy, who condemned the comment as reckless fearmongering and irresponsible for a global power.
“Stoking fears of World War III is an unfortunate and irresponsible remark by Medvedev and inappropriate for a world power,” Kellog said. “President Trump is working to stop this war and end the killing. We are still awaiting the Russian Memorandum you promised us a week ago. Ceasefire now.”
The exchange underscores the growing tension between Washington and Moscow as the war in Ukraine rages on, with diplomacy hanging in the balance.
