First Lady Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for over $1 billion following his claim that she was introduced to her husband, Donald Trump, by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Melania Trump’s lawyers described the statement as “false, contemptuous, slanderous, and inflammatory”, calling it an attempt to damage her reputation and integrity.
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, implied in a recent interview with director Andrew Callaghan that there were close ties between Trump and Epstein, stating that “Epstein introduced Melania to Trump”, suggesting a questionable connection.
In response, Melania Trump’s legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Hunter Biden’s attorney, demanding an immediate retraction and public apology, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action exceeding $1 billion. According to the letter, Melania Trump has suffered significant financial and reputational damage due to comments based on unverified sources and withdrawn articles.
Part of Hunter Biden’s claim referenced journalist Michael Wolff, who in an interview with Daily Beast suggested Melania may have been introduced to Trump via an Epstein associate. After receiving a legal letter from Melania’s attorney, Daily Beast retracted the article and apologized for any confusion.
Donald Trump was previously acquainted with Epstein but claimed their relationship soured in the early 2000s, when Epstein allegedly recruited employees from Trump’s Florida spa.
According to a 2016 Harper’s Bazaar profile, Melania first met Donald Trump at a party in November 1998, organized by a modeling agency. Trump had recently separated from his second wife, Marla Maples, and later married Melania in 2005. There is no official evidence linking the couple’s first meeting to Jeffrey Epstein.
The development comes amid growing pressure on the White House and authorities to release unpublished Epstein-related documents, which are believed to potentially reveal names involved in his criminal activities. Trump has stated he would release such information if re-elected, while the FBI and Department of Justice confirmed in July that no incriminating “client list” exists regarding Epstein’s associates.
Melania Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, cited a statement from her assistant, Nick Clemens:
“The attorneys for First Lady Melania Trump are actively seeking the immediate retraction of false and malicious claims and a public apology from those spreading defamatory lies.”
A response from Hunter Biden or his legal representatives is pending, and the case is expected to generate new political and legal tensions in the lead-up to the U.S. elections.
