Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the European Political Community Summit held for the first time in Albania, expressed gratitude for the warm Albanian hospitality and delivered strong messages about the region’s European future, reports Rks News.
“Thanks to Edi, not because I live in a protectorate, but because he made me feel very young in the video that was shown to us,” she said with a friendly tone, also congratulating Prime Minister Edi Rama on his “completely unexpected” reelection.
Meloni emphasized that Albania belongs to Europe not only due to geography but especially because of its history. “Albania is Europe just like Italy, regardless of whether you are part of an organization or not,” she stated, adding humorously that she always smiles when someone tries to define who is European.
Comparing the European Union to “the fingers of a hand,” Meloni highlighted the importance of including the Western Balkans in the common European project.
“We cannot build a new Europe in a new world without the Western Balkans,” she concluded, offering clear support for the region’s European integration.
