Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has paid tribute to fashion legend Giorgio Armani, following the announcement of his passing at the age of 91.
In a message shared on social media, Meloni wrote:
“Giorgio Armani has left us at the age of 91. With his elegance, refinement, and creativity, he brought prestige to Italian fashion and inspired the whole world. An icon, a tireless worker, a symbol of the very best of Italy. Thank you for everything.”
Born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Armani is considered one of the greatest designers in history, having revolutionized Italian and global fashion. He began his career in Milan and founded his iconic brand in 1975, which became a hallmark of elegance, minimalism, and sophistication.
Over more than five decades in fashion, Armani built not only unforgettable collections but also a global empire, spanning Emporio Armani, perfumes, accessories, and luxury hotels. Remarkably, he continued to work until the very end, personally approving his 50th anniversary collection just days before his passing.
The news of his death sparked immediate reactions from world leaders, artists, and fashion personalities, all describing him as a timeless inspiration and an enduring icon of Italian culture.
