The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, stated that his party will not vote for any individual who served in the second Kurti government as Speaker of the Assembly.
“I haven’t proposed specific names precisely to uphold the principle that the nomination belongs to the first-ranked party. However, our colleague Mr. Haradinaj has proposed two names: Ms. Bogujevci and Ms. Selimi, both of whom I am convinced would receive the necessary votes. Haradinaj has publicly said he would vote for them. Now I’m responding clearly to what I told Mr. Kurti—this may be the first time I say it publicly, but the position of the PDK is that we will never vote for any member of the Kurti II government, because we believe they are all responsible for the deterioration they have brought upon our country,” said the PDK leader.
He also commented on today’s meeting between political party leaders and President Vjosa Osmani, saying that although he didn’t expect concrete solutions, he sees the meeting as an important step toward overcoming the institutional crisis.
“It’s not that I had high hopes for a solution, but I saw it as a step forward. We have tried at every stage to ensure our actions contribute to resolving the crisis we’re facing as a country. The meeting was more or less a reiteration of the public positions we’ve already taken and didn’t result in any positive development that could lead to overcoming the crisis. Still, it shouldn’t be dismissed as meaningless; it should be seen as the right step,” Krasniqi said on Debat Plus on RTV Dukagjini.
The PDK leader blamed the Vetëvendosje Movement for the ongoing institutional blockade, linking it to their insistence on nominating Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Assembly.
“I proposed that the President, in accordance with her constitutional powers, consider turning to the Constitutional Court with a request for an interpretation,” he added.
