The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula, has called for the immediate release of Marija Vasic, a member of the Free Citizens Movement, and “all political prisoners in Serbia.”
In a post on social media platform X, Picula stated that there is no justification for keeping these individuals in inhumane conditions and urged Serbian authorities to act urgently.
“Professor Marija Vasic, who is on a hunger and thirst strike, is in life-threatening danger! I call for her release and the release of all political prisoners in Serbia! There is no reason for them to be held in inhumane conditions,” Picula wrote.
He emphasized that the citizens of Serbia seek a society governed by justice, free from legal or political violence, and urged European Union leaders to respond immediately.
