German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that easing sanctions on the use of Russian oil is “wrong.”
Speaking during a visit to Norway, Merz said that Germany believes it would be a mistake to relax sanctions at this time.
“Currently there is a problem with prices, but not with supply,” he said. “In this regard, I would like to know which other factors pushed the U.S. government to make this decision.”
Merz also emphasized that Germany will not be “discouraged or distracted” from supporting Ukraine because of the conflict involving Iran.
