German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has warned that Russia will only cease its war in Ukraine when compelled by economic and military factors, emphasizing that diplomatic efforts to achieve peace so far have yielded no results.
Speaking at a regional event for his conservative party in North Rhine-Westphalia, Merz stressed that, despite diplomatic attempts, Russian attacks on Ukraine continue with high intensity.
“All efforts over the past weeks have been met with an even more aggressive approach from the regime in Moscow against the Ukrainian population,” Merz said. He added that the war will persist until Russia, for economic and military reasons, is no longer able to advance in this conflict, according to Sky News.
Friedrich Merz called for greater international engagement to compel Russia to stop its aggression and meet the demands for peace.
