Germany’s leader, Friedrich Merz, has stated that he is in daily contact regarding the war with leaders such as Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom, Emmanuel Macron of France, and Giorgia Meloni of Italy.
Merz added that Germany was not consulted regarding the war in Iran, and he remains unconvinced that there is a clear plan to bring about democratic change there.
He also emphasized that the United States and Europe should jointly increase pressure on Russia in order to achieve peace in Ukraine, according to Sky News.
Merz added that, when the time comes, both Germany and Ukraine will be involved in negotiations on security guarantees following the war in Ukraine.
Speaking in the Bundestag, he also stressed the importance of concluding an EU–US trade agreement as soon as possible.
