European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated in an interview with Politico that SPAK in Albania is doing a very good job.

Kos emphasized that the work of the Special Prosecution is being closely monitored, and she was also asked about the so-called “Balluku case,” for which she said it is important that investigations proceed to determine whether the allegations exist or not.

“There are also several cases, and you mentioned the Balluku case, which we are monitoring very carefully. As you know, SPAK, the anti-corruption agency in Albania, is doing an excellent job, and it is in a way normal that they uncover cases.

What is important is to see whether these cases exist and what the responses are, and this is also something we are monitoring. Another issue with anti-corruption, which I would say is typical for all candidate countries, is that you may have the best legislation to fight corruption, but if corruption is accepted in that country, then you have another problem.

So all these countries are going through a process of changing the mindset regarding corruption, and this takes time,” Kos stated.
