The leader of Serbia’s Democratic Party (DS), Srđan Milivojević, has claimed that the arrested Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) councilor in connection with the seizure of five tons of marijuana near Kruševac was merely a “drug warehouse keeper”, accusing Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić of being aware of the operation.
Speaking to the media, Milivojević stated that the scale of the operation indicates the involvement of far more powerful actors than those arrested so far.
“Behind this operation stands someone far more powerful and someone who organized it much better. In this country, it is impossible to smuggle even five kilograms of coffee without the knowledge of the leader of this criminal clan, better known to the public as Aleksandar Vučić,” Milivojević said.
According to him, the drug operation was far too large to be managed at the local level, adding that Kruševac was deliberately chosen as a transit hub and storage center.
Massive Drug Seizure and Arrests
The Serbian Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, in cooperation with the Anti-Drug Unit of the Ministry of Interior, ordered the arrest of R.S. and N.S. in the village of Konjuhe near Kruševac, while I.D. was arrested at a separate location.
During the operation, authorities discovered:
- Five tons of marijuana
- Four automatic rifles
- One rocket launcher (“zolja”)
- More than 1.5 million Serbian dinars in cash
The drugs were stored in a warehouse owned by the company “Florakom”.
Prosecutors: Drugs Distributed to Belgrade
In an official statement, prosecutors said the organized criminal group stored marijuana in the premises of Florakom d.o.o., from where it was distributed across the city of Belgrade for sale.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately €50 million, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators also found scales, vacuum-sealing machines, and packaging materials, indicating a well-organized distribution network.
Political Allegations
Leaders of the Democratic Party and the People’s Movement of Serbia stated on Friday that R.S., one of the arrested suspects, is an SNS official in Kruševac and is closely connected to Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić.
The Serbian government has not yet officially responded to Milivojević’s accusations.
