The Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has welcomed the decision of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to advance Kosovo’s status.
In a post on “X,” Maqedonci wrote that this is a major step for security.
“The Permanent Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly decided today to advance the Assembly of Kosovo from a parliamentary observer to an associate member. This is a significant step forward for the security and prosperity of Kosovo and the region,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Maqedonci added that on the 25th anniversary of the beginning of NATO’s attacks, we are marking a new chapter with the news that the Permanent Steering Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has decided that Kosovo, from a parliamentary observer, be accepted as an associate member state.
“March 24, 1999, marked a new momentum for Kosovo and its struggle for freedom and an independent state, while today with this decision of NATO, we are one step closer towards fulfilling our goal as an indivisible state for a stable Balkans,” the minister wrote.
The Minister stated that NATO’s intervention on March 24, 1999, had to happen as it was the only way to end the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo, to stop the killing of children, women, men, and the elderly, systematic rapes, persecutions, burning, and forced expulsions, therefore March 24 is aligned not only with the people of Kosovo but also with the right side of human history as an action in support of the values of Western civilization, peace, freedom, and democracy.
“It is regrettable that our northern neighbor, even 25 years after the end of the war, neither seeks forgiveness nor feels remorse for the genocide committed in Kosovo. State archives were never opened, while the executors of Serbian state crimes continue to roam free.
While today we remember NATO’s bombings as the most righteous action of this powerful military alliance, the Serbian state continues to blame NATO and justify Milosevic’s genocidal actions. This speaks volumes about the same mentality that continues to exist among the rulers of Serbia,” Maqedonci declared.
He added that we cannot bring back the victims, the slain of the massacres, but we are forever grateful to the members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the martyrs, and NATO, which made it possible for us today to live in the independent state of the Republic of Kosovo.
