Prishtina, July 21, 2025 — Kosovo’s Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has confirmed the discovery of two Serbian-manufactured rocket-propelled weapons Zolja launchers during a police operation in North Mitrovica. The arms were found in an uninhabited residential complex on Anka Spaic Street, following an intelligence-led intervention by Kosovo Police.

Minister Sveçla described the discovery as further proof of the serious security challenges facing Kosovo’s northern municipalities, attributing continued destabilization efforts to Serbia.

“The quantity and sophistication of the weaponry confiscated over the past four years demonstrate the scale of the threat. The Republic of Serbia has not only failed to distance itself from these criminal activities, but it has also directly encouraged and supplied these groups,” said Sveçla.

He accused Serbian authorities of enabling criminal structures to act as proxies with the aim of undermining Kosovo’s territorial integrity and constitutional order.

The seized Zolja weapons have been submitted as material evidence, and an investigation has been launched under the supervision of the State Prosecutor for the criminal offense of unauthorized possession and control of weapons.

Sveçla reaffirmed the government’s determination to dismantle illegal armed groups in the north and restore normalcy for all residents.

“We remain fully committed to dismantling every criminal structure, ensuring law and order, and enabling long-term investment and development in the region—for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity,” he concluded.

The operation follows a series of similar actions by Kosovo Police, reflecting increased efforts by institutions to stabilize the situation in the north amid rising political and security tensions.
