U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that a federal immigration agent opened fire in self-defense during an armed incident in Minneapolis, resulting in the death of a man at the scene.

According to Secretary Noem, the individual who was shot had a criminal record, including domestic violence, public disorder offenses, and driving without a valid license.

She explained that the man approached federal agents while carrying a semi-automatic 9mm firearm. During attempts by the agents to disarm him, the suspect allegedly reacted violently, prompting one of the officers to use lethal force after perceiving an immediate threat to his life and the safety of colleagues.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed. Officials also reported that two magazines loaded with dozens of rounds of ammunition were found in his possession.

The incident remains under review by relevant authorities, in line with standard procedures for officer-involved shootings.
