Just minutes after reports that Bekë Berisha resigned from his position as president of the Prishtina basketball club, former star Granit Rugova announced his candidacy for the club’s presidency.
In a Facebook post, Rugova explained his reasons for running:
“Today, I feel a moral obligation to take responsibility and openly express my willingness to run for the position of president of the club of my heart. Not for personal ambition, but because I believe I have the knowledge, experience, and energy to manage the club well and, together with PLISAT, the citizens of Prishtina, and all club supporters, to take the club to where it deserves to be.
PRISHTINA has been an inseparable part of my life since the post-war period. In this club, I grew as a basketball player, as an athlete, and as a person. I have experienced victories, challenges, and historic moments that taught me the meaning of responsibility toward the jersey and the city.
After my career as a player, I continued my contribution to sports leadership, at the Kosovo Basketball Federation and later as Director of Sports in the Municipality of Prishtina. This experience has given me a clear vision of how a large club should be led—with vision, stability, and transparency.
Prishtina is not just a sports club.
It is the identity of the capital.
It is citizen pride.
This is a call for unity.
For honest work.
For a clear vision.
For PRISHTINA.
The return to the path of victories and trophies.
Together we can—and we will succeed.”
