Peđa Mitrović, a member of the Freedom and Justice Party, has accused authorities in Serbia of attempting to exploit a tragic incident at the Faculty of Philosophy Belgrade to intensify pressure on universities.

The reaction follows the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old woman outside the faculty in Belgrade. In response, Ana Brnabić scheduled an urgent session of the parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, and Technological Development to discuss the situation in public universities.

Mitrović warned that the ruling authorities may use the tragedy as a pretext for an “offensive against higher education,” stressing that the opposition will resist any attempt to politicize the case. He described the defense of university autonomy as a fundamental and civilizational issue and called for a full, independent investigation.

He also strongly criticized reporting by Informer, accusing the outlet of نشرing disturbing images and personal data of the victim, thereby violating the dignity of the deceased and her family while potentially interfering with the investigation.

Mitrović emphasized that his party will demand accountability, including restricting tabloid access to the investigation site, arguing that sensationalist coverage undermines both the integrity of the process and public trust.

The Freedom and Justice Party ранее stated that such sensitive information could not have reached the public without political approval, claiming the tragedy is being used to justify broader efforts to undermine university autonomy.
