The Basic Court in Mitrovica has rejected the Prosecution’s request to impose house arrest on four police officers suspected of evidence manipulation, ruling that a harsher measure was unnecessary.
The Court stated that after reviewing the case file, arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, it found that keeping the defendants free would not obstruct the investigation. The judge emphasized that a lighter measure is sufficient to ensure their participation in the proceedings.
The decision follows the arrests made on September 16 by the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK), which detained officers Q.K., B.M., L.T., and F.A. from the South Mitrovica police station. They are suspected of failing to properly process a criminal case of “creating general danger” on September 13, allegedly concealing and tampering with evidence found at the crime scene.
The IPK has also recommended their suspension from duty, while further investigative actions will continue in coordination with the Prosecution to clarify all circumstances of the case.
