Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis commented on Athens-Washington relations following Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. President during a press conference on Sunday.

He emphasized that relations with President Trump remain very strong, despite recent turbulence in U.S.-Europe relations due to Trump’s tariffs and pending legal procedures affecting trade agreements.

Regarding the delayed arrival of the new U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Mitsotakis said:

“It concerns me, but we are on the right track. Greece is not worried.”

Mitsotakis recalled his previous collaboration with Trump:

“Greece has historically maintained excellent relations with both Democrats and Republicans. I had the opportunity to work closely with President Trump during the overlap of my term with his first administration, and we had outstanding cooperation.”

On the ambassadorial delay, he added:

“Of course, I am concerned and would have liked the new ambassador to arrive sooner, but this does not worry Greece. It is related to general procedures regarding the ratification of presidential decisions in the U.S. Senate and Congress.”
