Federica Mogherini, former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, was released last night around 1 a.m., after being arrested on Tuesday as part of an investigation into fraud and corruption.
The two other detainees, Stefano Sannino and Cesare Zegretti, were also released by the Belgian Federal Judicial Police.
According to the judges, all three individuals were questioned and informed of the formal charges, which relate to fraud and corruption in procurement, conflict of interest, and breaches of professional secrecy, TCH reports.
They were released because they were not considered flight risks, with the investigation continuing under the legal measures set by the Belgian authorities.
The probe concerns transactions and procurement within the European External Action Service and the College of Europe, sparking significant public interest regarding the management of funds and administrative practices within EU institutions.
