In two separate operations near the border with Serbia, Montenegrin border police apprehended alcohol smugglers and a Serbian citizen driving a vehicle sought by Interpol Italy, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro.
Smugglers Caught Near Pljevlja
Police officers in Pljevlja intercepted a Mercedes that attempted to avoid the Ranče border crossing by turning onto a gravel road just before the checkpoint.
The vehicle was redirected to the official crossing, where a search revealed 21 packages containing 126 bottles of alcoholic beverages and 36 bottles of non-alcoholic drinks.
A criminal report has been filed against K.J. (18) from Nikšić, who was driving the car registered under her father M.J. (60), seated in the passenger seat. They are suspected of attempting to smuggle goods.
Interpol Alert at Metaljka Crossing
At the Metaljka border crossing, police stopped an Audi A4 driven by M.P. (42), a Serbian national.
A database check revealed that the car is wanted by Interpol Italy. The vehicle was seized on orders from the prosecutor, and further checks are underway.
Montenegrin authorities say these actions are part of ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crime and protect border integrity.
