Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, announced today that the country is close to deciding on the introduction of a seven-hour workday, as part of a major labor market reform.

“After extensive consultations on finding a model that would satisfy both trade unions and employers, I can say that we are close to a solution regarding the implementation of a seven-hour workday,” said Spajić.

This initiative is expected to be finalized next week, when the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Naida Nišić, will lead another round of discussions with trade unions and private sector representatives.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, these consultations will clarify the final version of the reform, which aims to change the country’s approach to working hours.

The objective of the reform is to improve the quality of life for citizens by allowing more time for families, while also promoting more efficient and productive work.

The government had previously announced that the seven-hour workday would be implemented in both public and private sectors, in line with campaign promises.
