Montenegrin Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, has called for an emergency session of the National Security Council on Friday, January 3, following the tragic incident in Cetinje.
According to Vijesti, the session will include the participation of the State Supreme Prosecutor, Milorad Marković, and the Special Prosecutor, Vladimir Novović.
“During the session, the Council will focus on the main challenges in identifying and seizing illegal weapons and will propose a series of measures aimed at combating crime and protecting citizens. The agenda will also include an initiative for the implementation of urgent actions across all cities in the country. Montenegro will work on the identification and confiscation of illegal weapons, as well as the announcement of a public competition for recruiting new police officers to strengthen the capacities of security institutions,” the Government reports.
Additionally, the current level of implementation of legal provisions will be reviewed, with particular emphasis on the necessity of adopting a new Arms Law. According to the regulation, stricter controls and more stringent conditions for issuing licenses to carry and possess firearms are planned.
The National Security Council reminds that protecting the life and property of citizens is a fundamental obligation of all competent bodies and expects full cooperation from both citizens and institutions.
The session will begin at 14:00 tomorrow, after which “conclusions and further steps towards ensuring citizens’ security will be announced.”
