A recent survey revealed that most Germans are concerned about a potential Russian attack on a NATO country following drone incursions into Polish airspace.
The poll, conducted by the Insa Institute for Bild, surveyed 1,002 people. Results showed that 62% of respondents feared an attack on NATO countries such as Poland or Lithuania, while 28% did not share this fear and 10% were unsure.
This concern comes after Russian drone activity over Ukraine and neighboring NATO airspace earlier this week. Polish Air Forces, supported by other NATO allies, reportedly shot down several drones for the first time, raising alarm in Europe.
Military analysts say it is unlikely that the drone incursions were accidental, though it remains unclear whether they were intended to strike NATO targets or simply to provoke and test NATO’s air defenses.
Strong Support for Sanctions Against Russia
The poll also found that a majority of Germans support stricter economic measures against Russia:
- 49% said all Russian gas and oil supplies to the EU should be immediately cut.
- 33% favored continuing the supplies, 11% were unsure, and 7% said it did not matter.
Additionally, 51% of respondents believe frozen Russian assets in the EU should be used to support Ukraine, while 29% opposed and 20% were unsure or had no opinion.
