The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MPB) has issued a strict ban on lighting fires in all open spaces across Kosovo due to the increased risk posed by high temperatures and dry weather.
Acting Minister Xhelal Sveçla announced the decision publicly, sharing the official document and calling on all citizens to refrain from any activity that may cause or spread fire.
“Lighting fires is a criminal offense. Offenders will be dealt with immediately and without hesitation according to the penalties provided by our legislation,” said Sveçla.
The ban covers all types of fires, including:
Burning of waste
Forest and field fires
Recreational fires and picnics
Use of fireworks
Sveçla emphasized that this measure is taken to protect the environment, public and private property, and citizens’ safety.
In case of spotting a fire or potential fire risk, citizens are urged to immediately call the emergency number 193 or Kosovo Police at 192.
