As the Assembly continues repeated attempts at constitution, political experts are calling for consensus among political parties to pull the country out of the ongoing deadlock. According to them, holding new elections benefits no one and is not a viable solution to end the stalemate. Analysts note that citizens are becoming poorer and the state is being harmed due to the lack of formed institutions.

On Sunday, lawmakers will make another attempt to constitute the Parliament.

More than six months after the parliamentary elections, experts say that political consensus is essential to break the deadlock. They argue that with the current stances of political parties, even holding early elections would not resolve the situation.

“I believe everyone would be disappointed if early elections are held. There will be no dramatic change in percentages. We will have roughly the same results – and that would be unfortunate because another deadlock will follow even after early elections,” said Argjend Zejnaj, a political analyst.

Analysts remain optimistic that the Assembly will soon be constituted, despite neither Vetëvendosje nor the former opposition having enough votes to form a government.

According to Jeton Halimi, politicians have already caused significant harm to the state over the past six months, leaving no more time to waste.

“Every delay harms the people and the institutions. The institutions must be formed as soon as possible,” Halimi said.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has set a deadline for lawmakers to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speakers by September 18.
