Kosovar authorities took control on Tuesday of a building near Lake Ujman in the northern part of the country, in an operation assisted by members of the Kosovo Police.
The intervention was carried out at the request of the public enterprise Ibër-Lepenc, which determined that the building in question is located on its land and forms part of critical infrastructure vital to national security.
In a statement to IndeksOnline, the Chief Executive Officer of Ibër-Lepenc, Faruk Mujka, explained that following the attack on November 29, 2024, which severely damaged the main water channel, there has been an increased need for full institutional control over facilities and assets located in the area.
“Since Ibër-Lepenc constitutes critical infrastructure for national security, it is essential that this area be under the supervision of Kosovo’s institutions. The intervention was made to secure the building, restore order, and enable efficient management,” Mujka emphasized.
He added that the company had requested the assistance of the Kosovo Police in reclaiming the property and taking control of the facility.
Despite the intervention, political reactions have not been absent. The Serb List has called for the intervention of the Quint countries, raising concerns over the move. However, Director Mujka stressed that the management of the situation falls exclusively under the authority of Kosovo’s institutions.
Tuesday’s decision is the latest in a series of actions by Kosovo’s authorities aimed at shutting down parallel Serbian institutions on Kosovar territory.
