Kosovo’s Acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, stated today that Kosovo Telecom has been showing a positive growth trend over the past two years. However, the company still requires financial support due to lingering issues caused by “a dark history of abuse.”

During today’s government meeting, Murati requested the approval of a €10 million loan, which the caretaker government approved.

“Telecom was in serious financial and organizational difficulties when we took over, after years of mismanagement by previous governments. With the right board, management, and government support, the company has started recovering by reducing operational expenses and downsizing staff. This has resulted in increased investment opportunities. In the past two years alone, revenues have increased by €7 million,” Murati said.

Still, he noted that not all challenges have been overcome. Kosovo Telecom’s bank accounts have been blocked for several months due to an enforcement case stemming from a damaging past contract. This has caused delays in payments to business partners and tax obligations.

According to Murati, the €10 million loan is crucial to restore liquidity and allow the company to focus on growth and new investments.
