The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has today filed an indictment against Sh.L., a Gorani national, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of War Crimes Against the Civilian Population in collaboration with other individuals, reports Gazeta Sinjali.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, during the war, the accused committed murder, torture, and inhumane treatment against civilians in the municipalities of Suharekë and Rahovec.
“The defendant, in his capacity as a police officer at the Police Station in Prizren, during the Kosovo war, committed murder, torture, and inhumane treatment against the Albanian civilian population in the municipalities of Suharekë and Rahovec. Investigations have confirmed that Serbian police forces initially arrested the victims in the Suharekë and Rahovec regions and then transported them to the Police Station in Prizren. There, the defendant interrogated them using torture and inhumane treatment. As a result of the torture, the deceased R. J. died, while ten (10) other civilians suffered serious physical injuries and psychological consequences.”
This criminal case has now been transferred to the Special Department of the Basic Court in Pristina for further proceedings.
The accused is currently in detention as per the decision of the Preliminary Procedure Judge until a new ruling is made by the court.
