President Musar: Kosovo and the Western Balkans are of Great Strategic Importance for Slovenia

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar emphasized Kosovo and the Western Balkans’ importance to Slovenia during a visit to Slovenian troops in KFOR. She also highlighted the essential role of KFOR in regional stability.

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, also the Commander-in-Chief of Slovenia’s Armed Forces, visited the 50th contingent of the Slovenian Armed Forces serving in Kosovo under the KFOR mission. Accompanied by Lieutenant General Robert Glavash, the Chief of the General Staff of Slovenia’s Armed Forces, the President visited Slovenian troops stationed at the Film City military base in Pristina.

During her visit, President Pirc Musar met with KFOR Commander Major General Enrico Barduani, discussing Slovenia’s contribution to the peacekeeping operation in Kosovo, operational tasks, and the current security situation in the region.

In a statement, Pirc Musar emphasized that Kosovo and the broader Western Balkans hold significant strategic importance for Slovenia. She highlighted that to achieve lasting stability in the region, continued support from the international community is essential, with KFOR playing a pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability.

“Kosovo and the wider Western Balkans region are of great strategic importance for Slovenia. To achieve sustainable stability across the entire region, further support from the international community is needed, where the KFOR operation remains one of the most crucial pillars,” said Pirc Musar.

The Slovenian president also praised Slovenian troops’ ongoing contribution to stability in the region, highlighting that over 300 Slovenian soldiers serve not only in the Western Balkans but also in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, ensuring stability and respect for international law.

She underscored the responsibility of Slovenian forces, stating, “Soldiers do not start wars; they are initiated by irresponsible politicians who never step on the front lines.”

Pirc Musar also expressed her sorrow over the impact of wars on families and children worldwide, especially during the holiday season. She recognized the noble profession of the Slovenian Armed Forces, emphasizing the core values they protect, such as human rights, patriotism, humanity, and solidarity.

The President concluded her visit by participating in a concert by the Slovenian Armed Forces’ musical group “Naboj”, dedicated to the soldiers serving in Kosovo.
