Besian Mustafa, a member of the presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), stated that the party’s stance has not changed, emphasizing that they will not vote for any candidate from parties without a prior political agreement.

Mustafa added that it remains to be seen whether Vetëvendosje (VV) will be able to reach a compromise with other parliamentary parties to proceed in the Kosovo Parliament.

LDK’s position has always been clear. We do not vote for any candidate or party with which we do not have a prior political agreement. We will see if VV is willing to find a compromise and a joint path with other parties to proceed in the Parliament, including voting for the Speaker and parliamentary leadership,” Mustafa said.

He also emphasized that only those who have remained loyal to LDK can truly be considered LDK members or Rugovists.

This statement came after questions regarding remarks by Acting Minister of Agriculture, Faton Peci, who criticized opposition parties for not voting for Donika Gërvalla as Parliament Speaker.

After three weeks, MPs reconvened on 20 August for the continuation of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Parliament. Following the Constitutional Court ruling on the political deadlock, the vote for the parliamentary chair was conducted openly, with Albulena Haxhiu and Donika Gërvalla proposed by VV. However, neither candidate received the required 61 votes.

Following these two unsuccessful attempts, session chair Avni Dehari suspended the session, which will resume today at 11:00.

Earlier, the Constitutional Court published a ruling establishing a 30-day deadline for the Parliament’s constitution. According to the ruling, a candidate cannot be voted on more than three times.

Kosovo held extraordinary parliamentary elections on 9 February 2025.
