During the NATO Summit in The Hague, there was an emotional exchange between U.S. President Donald Trump and a journalist from BBC News Ukraine, who told the President that her husband is currently serving as a soldier on the front lines in Ukraine.

The journalist asked whether the United States is willing to sell Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, amid continued Russian attacks.

At the start of his response, Trump asked:
Trump: “Where are you from?”
Journalist: “I’m from Ukraine. My husband is there. I’m in Warsaw with the children.”
Trump: “It’s a tough situation, isn’t it? And you’re a journalist?”
Journalist: “Yes.”

Trump then answered the question regarding Patriot missile systems:

“Ukraine wants to get the Patriot systems. We’ll see if we can make some available. They’re very difficult to acquire. We need them too,” he said. “We’ve provided them to Israel and they’re extremely effective — 100 percent effective. And Ukrainians want them more than anything.”

The U.S. President concluded by acknowledging the emotional weight of the question.

“That was a very good question. I wish you all the best. I can see this really affects you. So please, send your husband my regards, alright?”
