NASA is set to launch Artemis II on March 6, sending four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the far side of the Moon—the first manned mission to venture that far since the Apollo era more than 50 years ago.

This mission will mark humanity’s farthest journey into space in more than half a century. The launch date follows a successful full dress rehearsal at Kennedy Space Center, where the rocket was fueled and passed the countdown test. According to BBC, this was the crew’s second attempt at the final launch rehearsal.

NASA officials emphasized the historical significance of the mission. Lori Glaze, speaking at a press conference, said:

“Every night I look up at the Moon and feel thrilled, because I sense it calling us—and we are ready.”

Artemis II is a critical step toward returning humans to the lunar surface and establishing a sustainable presence on and around the Moon, paving the way for future exploration of Mars and beyond.
