National Guard units have been deployed in areas affected by wildfires in Los Angeles to prevent looting and enhance security, following the arrest of over 20 suspects.
Sheriff of Los Angeles County, Robert Luna, announced measures to reinforce security in areas evacuated due to fires in the region. Over the past few days, more than 20 individuals have been arrested on suspicion of looting.
As part of this effort, National Guard units were deployed on Friday in fire zones to assist with protecting people and critical infrastructure.
“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officially requested support from the California National Guard. They will help manage traffic control and safeguard vital infrastructure,” said Luna.
Additional resources have been mobilized to strengthen security in the affected areas, with the National Guard reinforcing the message of keeping people out of the impacted zones to prevent further harm to the victims.
The sheriff also announced the implementation of a curfew, which will be in effect from 6 PM to 6 AM in specific areas around the threatened regions, such as Pacific Palisades and Eaton.
Supervisor of Los Angeles County, Kathryn Barger, emphasized that the curfew is not intended to penalize residents but to ensure the safety of the area. She noted that the Altadena City Council requested the curfew.
