NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska and Secretary General Mark Rutte reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to stability in Kosovo and the Western Balkans during their visit.

NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, Radmila Shekerinska, has reiterated the Alliance’s steadfast commitment to peace and stability in the Western Balkans following her visit to Kosovo. Shekerinska met with the staff of the KFOR mission, emphasizing NATO’s three-decade-long presence in the region as a pillar of security.

“It was a pleasure to meet with our KFOR mission staff. NATO has supported peace and stability in the region for 30 years, and our commitment remains strong. A secure Western Balkans means greater security for the entire Euro-Atlantic area,” Shekerinska stated in a social media post.

Her visit to Kosovo was part of a delegation that included NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, ambassadors of NATO Allies, and representatives from other KFOR-contributing nations.

During his visit, Rutte met with Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and NATO peacekeeping troops. He underscored KFOR’s role as a stabilizing force, alongside the United States, in ensuring security in Kosovo and the region.

“KFOR is fully prepared to respond to any security developments. We expect continued cooperation between Prishtina and KFOR in line with decades-long commitments,” Rutte said at a joint press conference with President Osmani.

He also stressed the necessity of political solutions for long-term peace, urging both Kosovo and Serbia to show flexibility and make compromises in dialogue efforts.

“The United States remains fully committed to KFOR and NATO. President [Donald] Trump, just two weeks ago in the Oval Office, met with the French President and the British Prime Minister, reaffirming his commitment to Article 5 and NATO. I know the U.S. is dedicated to KFOR,” Rutte remarked during a discussion with journalists in Prishtina on March 11.

The visit reaffirms NATO’s enduring presence in Kosovo and its broader commitment to regional stability amid ongoing political and security challenges.
