The press conference of Jens Stoltenberg after the presentation of NATO’s annual report began by referring to the courage of the Ukrainians, but also to the lack of ammunition in Kyiv.
“The courage of the Ukrainians is not running out, more than two years after their country was invaded by Russia, but their ammunition is running out,” said the NATO Secretary General.
Stoltenberg spoke about “an urgent need for allies to increase the distribution of ammunition and weapons to Ukraine,” while adding that it is “a matter of political will to make decisions.”
“NATO allies are not providing Ukraine with enough ammunition, and this has consequences on the battlefield every day,” he said, highlighting that this is one of the reasons why the Russians have been able to achieve victories and advance during the recent weeks and months.
“There is an urgent need for allies to make the necessary decisions to intervene and to send more ammunition to Ukraine.
“This is my message to all capitals,” said the NATO Secretary General.
“We have the capability to provide Ukraine with everything it needs. It is a matter of political will. Let’s make the decisions and prioritize support for Ukraine,” he said characteristically.
At the same time, he warned that “any attempt to organize Russian elections in the occupied regions of Ukraine would be completely illegal.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also called “illegal and invalid the voting of the Russian presidential elections held in the occupied territories of Ukraine” and called on its international partners “not to recognize the results.”
In its statement, the ministry said that “the election campaign in the territories occupied by Russia showed that Moscow has shown a continuous blatant disregard for the rules and principles of international law.”
