The North Atlantic Alliance condemned today the violation of Romanian airspace by Russia.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana stated on X that these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous, noting that there was “no information indicating a deliberate attack by Russia against the allies.”
This follows Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs protest over the airspace violations earlier on Sunday, while also announcing consultations with NATO regarding the nature of the breach.
Romania had sent two fighter jets to patrol the area near the village of Periprava on the border with Ukraine, where the suspected violation occurred and a drone was downed.
Latvia also reported today that a Russian drone crashed on its territory yesterday.
