NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, Radmilla Shekerinska, emphasized the importance of stability and the post-election process in Kosovo, as well as in the entire Western Balkans region.

In an interview with RTV Dukagjini, she stated that NATO does not interfere in domestic politics but expects a functional government and progress in the dialogue with Serbia, which she sees as crucial for regional stability.

“Overall, we have moved into an unstable situation, and when there are elections in the region, like these, special attention should be given. But fortunately, the elections were held, and they did not have a direct impact on stability. It is clear that citizens exercised their right to vote, and now the post-election process is the most important. But this is not something NATO interferes with or influences. We expect a government to be formed that represents the institutions of Kosovo.

And in fact, we want movement on the issue of dialogue, progress in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. We believe this is the right investment for the continued stability of the region,” said Shekerinska.

Regarding security, Shekerinska reminded that NATO increased the number of KFOR troops in response to several incidents, such as the terrorist attack in Basnjskë, Zvečan. “What we have done in response to incidents that occurred in Kosovo is certainly to increase our KFOR troops. And I think this speaks volumes about NATO’s commitment, the investments we are making, and our support for political dialogue,” added NATO’s Deputy Secretary General.

Regarding Kosovo’s NATO membership, Shekerinska emphasized that this is an issue that requires further progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

“When it comes to NATO membership, this is actually the next phase, and for that, we truly need to see progress in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. That is why we support the EU-led dialogue. We want to move forward and discuss issues that are in the interest of everyone in the region,” said NATO’s Deputy Secretary General.
