The Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, commented on Russian nuclear weapons as a decisive deterrent.

Bauer, as the head of the alliance’s military committee, is one of NATO’s highest-ranking officers, known for his often bold statements.

This time, while discussing the possibility of NATO’s more direct involvement in the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, he stated that the primary reason for not intervening more directly is indeed Russia’s nuclear arsenal.

“I am absolutely certain that if the Russians didn’t have nuclear weapons, we would be in Ukraine and would push them out. We would do it. But they have nuclear weapons. So, it’s not the same as Afghanistan,” said the officer.

According to publicly available data, Russia possesses more than 5,500 nuclear warheads, making it the country with the largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

On another note, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, resulting in thousands of casualties and substantial material damage.
