Eight NATO member countries, threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump with tariffs starting February 1, issued a joint statement on Sunday in response to the move.

Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom will face 10% tariffs on exports to the U.S. starting February, increasing to 25% in June.

In their statement, the countries stressed that they “stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland.”

“We are ready to engage in dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, to which we remain firmly committed,” the statement read.

All eight nations emphasized that they are dedicated to strengthening Arctic security as a common transatlantic interest. They highlighted Denmark’s recent military exercise in Greenland, “Arctic Endurance,” noting it “reflects this goal and poses no threat to anyone.”

President Trump’s aim to acquire Greenland has sparked tensions among NATO members, most of which are European. Canada also joined the statement, defending Denmark’s sovereignty over Greenland.
